Biography

An operator, a steward, and an investor — in one career.

Few executives embody the intersection of mission-driven leadership, operational excellence, financial stewardship, and entrepreneurial achievement as completely as RJ Blake. A combat veteran, accomplished entrepreneur, Certified Public Accountant, and board leader, Blake has spent more than two decades operating at the convergence of national security, federal government modernization, financial governance, and organizational transformation. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a rare ability to lead in high-stakes environments, build high-performing organizations, and create sustainable value for both public and private stakeholders.

As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Blake Willson Group (BWG), Blake transformed a bootstrapped startup into one of the most respected and fastest-growing firms serving the federal marketplace. Under his leadership, BWG supports the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and Federal Civilian agencies with financial management, compliance, risk management, audit readiness, and technology-enabled modernization solutions. The firm has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list for eight consecutive years, earned multiple Vet100 honors as one of the nation's fastest-growing veteran-owned businesses, and has become known for delivering mission-critical outcomes through innovation, accountability, and operational precision.

Blake's leadership foundation was forged long before entering the corporate world. As a Non-Commissioned Officer and Team Leader with the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division, he led reconnaissance and counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan, overseeing personnel, intelligence gathering, and mission execution in some of the most demanding environments imaginable. These experiences instilled the principles that continue to define his leadership philosophy today: clarity of purpose, disciplined execution, accountability under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to those he serves.

Following his military service, Blake built an exceptional foundation in finance and governance through positions with KPMG and Deloitte, where he specialized in federal financial management, enterprise risk, audit readiness, internal controls, and large-scale government modernization initiatives. Working across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and civilian agencies, he developed deep expertise in regulatory compliance, financial oversight, risk mitigation, and organizational transformation. These experiences would later become instrumental in helping federal agencies improve stewardship of taxpayer resources while navigating increasingly complex operational environments.

Today, Blake is widely recognized as a trusted advisor and thought leader within the federal contracting and national security ecosystem. His expertise spans leadership development, strategic planning, governance, risk management, organizational design, P&L management, venture growth, and innovation. Recognizing the transformative potential of emerging technologies, he established BWG's Innovation Center to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence and automation across government operations — helping agencies improve efficiency, decision-making, and mission effectiveness.

In 2025, Blake expanded his influence into the venture capital arena as a Venture Partner with IronGate Capital Advisors, where he focuses on identifying and supporting emerging dual-use, defense technology, and national security companies. Drawing upon his extensive network across government, defense, intelligence, and private industry, he provides strategic guidance to founders navigating complex regulatory environments and scaling innovative solutions for government customers. His unique perspective as both an operator and investor allows him to bridge the gap between entrepreneurial innovation and mission-critical execution.

What distinguishes RJ Blake is not simply his record of achievement, but his ability to connect mission, strategy, and execution. Whether leading soldiers in combat, advising federal agencies, scaling high-growth enterprises, mentoring future leaders, or guiding organizations from the boardroom, he consistently demonstrates a leadership style grounded in service, trust, and measurable results.

Unlocking Excellence

Leadership is ultimately measured by the success of others.

RJ Blake possesses a leadership style that is increasingly rare in today's business environment — one built upon service, humility, and the belief that leadership is ultimately measured by the success of others. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated an ability to attract talented people, align them around a common purpose, and create environments where individuals are empowered to perform at their highest levels. Rather than leading through authority alone, he leads through credibility, trust, and example.

As an executive, he brings a balanced perspective that blends strategic thinking with practical execution. He understands that long-term success requires more than strong financial performance; it requires building resilient organizations capable of adapting to changing markets, evolving technologies, and shifting stakeholder expectations.

Even after significant professional success, he continues to invest in expanding his knowledge, understanding emerging trends, and challenging conventional thinking — approaching leadership as an evolving discipline rather than a destination.

His integrity, professionalism, and commitment to doing what is right — even when difficult — have earned him the respect of colleagues, executives, and board members alike.
